View Full Version : I need HAIR

Traditional Japanese brides wear wigs; and some are not too flattering in photos. In this one I cleaned up the hair line quite a bit; but I need to add hair along the hairline and in some other places. I'm new with PSE and I've tried cloning without success. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks.

a quick attempt, but may give you a starter for 10. what i did was select the area of hair where is shows, and copy that onto another later of the photo. i then made that layer 50% opacity and then displaced the layer slightly by a few pixels, so that the strands of hair in the new layer appeard between the strands of hair in the background layer. Add a bit of blur ( you can play with whatever suits ) and you have the same hair, but just more of it.

In fact, i did that with 2 extra layers.

Lastly, i erased out the sections of the new layers which extended past the background ( such as the forehead on the far right ) ... but that still looks awfully sharp cand contrasted against the black.

Its a start for 10, but may get you closer to what you are looking for.

THAT's GREAT! Exactly what I want to do. But how did you DISPLACE the layer by a few pixels?
Thanks so much!

I took a similar tack as Donnyboy, but what I did was to select and area of the hairline, then copy/paste that in. THEN I SET THE BLEND MODE TO DARKEN. THEN, I nudged it a few pixels over. A slight erase (20% opacity, a few passes) to tidy up the roots, and that is that. Then I pasted again, and repeat. And again.

THEN, I noticed that I was getting a lot repetitiveness - it "looked" cloned, since each layer was identical but just shifted - you tell it was the same thing over and over. So next I selected an area of hairline that is left of the frame (above her right temple), copy/pasted that selection in, then rotated the selection to match the general hair direction and then just did the same as above.

Here is the result, and a before/after.

Hope this technique helps.
