Hey I got my new 400D a couple of weeks ago, and I'm using the kit lens.
Can you check out a few of my shots and let me know how I'm doing so far?
http://xsillence.smugmug.com - There are just a few of them
Thanks in advance. I'm looking for criticism ;)

Some promising pictures there. I just started a few months ago with a 400D too. I found it very helpful to do some searches for "composition" and "photography", and have a read about a few guidlines for getting interesting pictures that "look right". Some of the things that you're not doing include putting the main subject (and horizon where applicable) a third of the way from an edge (rather than in the middle) - though your bench in the forest is my favourite and I think it looks absolutely fabulous with its central placement. But then I have a thing for benches. :-). Also, try to think about your photos in terms of fore-, mid- and back-ground, and generally have something at each level throughout the picture. There are lots of other important ideas like "lead in lines", lines disappearing into diagonals.... You can't apply them all to every picture, but they're good points of reference. At any rate, all this stuff seems to have helped my pictures, so I think it might help yours. Cheers, Tony

You're very welcome... do post some more pics when you've had a chance to apply some of the ideas you read about. Cheers, Tony
