I've been reading posts here for the last couple of days, and I got the urge to post a picture to see what everyone thought. I consider myself an advancing beginner in the world of photography, but as always, I have a lot to learn and your comments will be appreciated.

This pic falls somewhere between a set-up shot and a snapshot. We were having fun with the dogs and I got the camera out to intentionally try to get them in action, and this was one of the better ones.

For the record: Canon 10D, 28-90 f/4-f/5.6 (Rebel TI Kit Lens), built in flash

Well, since twenty have looked, but nobody has commented, I will.

Looks like a snapshot to me. Not really interesting, no odd angle or funny animal trick, just a snapshot of a dog by a couch with an afgan on it.

sorry.

Please do not get frustrated or upset. Just keep taking pictures and asking for input.

Two things come to mind that might help a shot like this:
1. When working this close, you're going to get harsh shadows from the flash unless you use a diffuser of some type.
2. We're all accustomed t seeing small dogs from that angle. Maybe if you got down more on the pup's level to take your shot, you'll get a more interesting angle on him/her.

Cute dog, though.

Belmundo has a good point re: the angle. Some of the best dog shots have been taken from below the dog's eye level.

Personally I find that the built in flash on my camera tends to make pictures look flat, so I hardly ever use it. I'd try taking the dog outside and have a play around with taking photos in the sunshine.

I hope this helps. Do keep posting as it is amasing how fast your skills progress with the help that these guys give (I speak from personal experience).
