Not sure if I like this at all, I originally just had the font and the B&w shot on the right hand side, I feel I had something to work with from there but think I can do better than what I have come up with. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for looking.

Hi Rob, I am far from an expert, but I will offer you my opinion.
The first thing I would do it to change the font. Try to match it to the "Flames" font in the logo. It resembles the band "Kiss" font. I would also turn the image on the short edge and keep the B&w photo on the right side. I would also make the logo smaller, it is distracting, to my eye anyway.
I would change the background, make it lighter and apply some drop shadows around the photos for more dimension.
Hope this helps, and again this is just my opinion. Others will probably have much betters ideas than me. :)

Better than anyhting I could do as I am not very artistic. But saying that. Not keen on the open spaces...

Can you take the white out of the logo? It's draws too much attention as it is.

check out any of the poster galleries. I get a lot of requests for poster around here. I try to make them different and unique. Sorry for not embedding them. There are too many. Hope this gives you a good idea. Oh, and the pasword to get into the "Stratford Poster" gallery is "adam".
I have been using photoshop for 10 plus years now. The only advice I could give you would be, if you can't figure it out, just google it. There is just about anything and everything you need to know on the net and in tutorials. Anyway, hope that is a good contribution. Take it easy, good luck.
As far as your poster goes, if you take the white out of the logo it will have low contrast and probably not look so hot. What you could do is intoduce another color in the background in the form of a shape to set the logo apart from the rest. The images are nice, more images would give you more dynamic design possibilites. Adding subtle gradients can add nice effects when used correctly. As far as the font; try to match the font to the jersey identically or pick a font that is completely opposite so people don't think that you "tried" to match the font but couldn't. You could also try and get creative with some filters in photoshop, like motion blur radial blur. Sorry for the rant, that is all I have right now. ;)

Thanks Adam, some excellent advice there and seeing your work gives me both ideas and is quite inspirational, I'm looking forward to improving!

Here is a re-working of it, not much change , just the logo smaller and the addition of flames, I still think it may not be outstanding, but is possibly improving! Happy to know any more thoughts or ideas, thanks again for looking.

Here's another with out-glow on the player, I'm never much of a fan of outer glow and I'm still not sure I like this any better than the prvious one.
