i just purchased a ST-E2 wireless transmitter, and im having trouble manually controlling my flash. i have tried playing with different buttons (because the manual offers no help) with no luck. when i use my flash, i put my camera on manual, and i want to be able to use my flash wirelessly as if it were right there with me. so far all i have been able to figure out is that i can set the flash to manual, set the brightness, and then use my transmitter. but if im at a concert shooting the even and my flash is up on stage, i will need a way to control the flash more through the transmitter.

I checked some of the tuturials, but most of them just explained briefly how to use a wireless transmitter and not how to manually control it. thank you for your help :)

One of the (*many*) shortcomings of the ST-E2 is that, while it can fire the slaves in manual mode....it cannot remotely set the slave (group) power. A 580EX can be used in that manner.

In addition, the ST-E@ can only control A & B groups, where a 580EX can control A, B, and C. Also, the 580EX has twice the range.

If you can still return it you may want to consider that. I did when I got mine...and realize what it couldn't do.
