Hi,

I am just starting out and work as admin/sales for a UK photography studio. but my passion is being behind the camera.

Just completed my first ever portrait job which was a local event.

Sales have been great, and although I am pleased at my first attempt you can always improve.

used a 2nd hand d20 and begged/borrowed everything else.

any advice, comments more than welcome.

Thanks,

Here's one thing, don't make me confirm that I want to leave your site or close my browser, this just pisses people off. I for one will not go back to a site that do this. Its like locking the customers in your store then asking them "do you really want to leave?" Its rude.

VERY MUCH AGREED

Also, you didn't link to a photo you want critique on. If you want critique on the entire site, you might want to repost in the "Galleries" section.

not much to say about the photography as they are all the same, same lighting, same people same everything really.
How about some with different backgrounds etc
another tip on the page, you havef got rid of the back button, also very annoying. plus i keep ending up on the payment page but want to get into the albums, of which on the groups work for me.

Wow, very slow to load and errors galore. I ended up on a contact info page, the site disabled the back button so I couldn't go back. Then when I clicked to go back it tried to take me to http://http//jtimages.myjalbum.net/ which of course errored out. I would love to critique the images but I'm sorry to say that the site is completely unusable for me - I even gave it the extremely long wait time to load when usually if I don't see anything by the first few seconds, I go on to something else.

Not trying to kick you when you're down, but really hope you look into this site and go with something completely different.

thanks, i know what you mean about the back button. I got this event to open up in full screen mode, i know it looks like to the client that i am taking over there pc, but it has not stopped them ordering, which is the important thing.

Surprised you find it slow, maybe because the server is in sweeden somewhere, seems to be fine in the UK.

The pictures and background are all the same as it is an event, you cant really change the background every couple, but i agree i could mix up the poses more.

Thanks so far

keep them coming

i know you're probably compressing the jpgs on high to save on bandwidth, but i doubt you're getting thousands of hits per day.. The image compression is horrible and makes the images look bad. I would re-compress the images with a lower compression.

also your 'couples' section has 2 guys as the main pic. I don't mind this at all but some might not like it. I would change it to a girl/guy

Your site locked up my Firefox for a bit. I got out of there ASAP.

Sorry, more bad news - you might want to spell check the first line...
Not a good opener.

Hi Phil,

They have been great sellers too, just need to spell it right.

pointing out errors is good news not bad, (well most of the time)

thanks

I hated not being able to use the back button.(habit.)
Agree about the leaving the site bit.it is annoying.

But.you did get some great faces! Just hard on the eyes to scroll through them all.

Would like to see some of your photos in another setting;) You captured some great stuff.

I use Safari so tabbed browsing but I totally agree. Load time was a bit slow but that maybe my interest connection.

Idea and work looks good

The Photo's seem to similar, and the way you have them alligned make them difficult to kind of "wow" over...when i take a closer look i can see you have good shots, but your not selling to other photographers. I'd rethink the design.

Your pictures are good...just offer more variety, and get a layout that sells....less is more (I do believe that)

Two photography sites that I think are really exceptional

http://www.markzibert.com/

http://www.nadavkander.com/#

I think flash presentations are a good way to go now a days....just have to be a bit modest with it.

Thanks all for comments.

I have also looked at all the poses and the ones that sell and the ones that dont, so i keep with them and maybe add a few more to see if they sell as well. I think a lot of it was down to my confidence (or lack of it) and was getting a bit snap happy, (I take another just in case)

I think the speed issue was down mainly to it is loaded on a free server with jalbums, so i doubt you get any thing fast from them, being free. But before i spend my cash, i wanted to see if i could make any money.

I also drop an email to the guys who sells the gallery system with a link to this so they can look at a few of the points raised.

Thanks again

Besides the already mentioned site issues I think the photos look OK. The lighting is not particularly interesting but they are well lit. It looks like you had a fun shoot.
