I'm thinking about picking up a couple of extra batteries and I've heard that certain 3rd party brands are superior to the OEM Canon BP-511. Lenmar and Power-2000 for example.

However, can these batteries be charged in the supplied charger that came with my Drebel? If not...then how?

I charge them in my 10D charger all the time.

Same here I have one Delkin & two Lenmar batteries & they all hit the same Canon Charger. I really like the Lenmar overall for holding a charge.

Hellashot ... you can get 2 new 300D batteries on Ebay for about $10. Batterysavings.com...does not look like so much savings to me. :?

25 bucks for 2 including shipping. Ships to canada a bit slowly (and shipping not included), but if you're in the states, that's a good deal.

Batteries work. Don't know how long they will last though. Have had them for 2 weeks only.

I bought some cheap BP511 ripoff batteries and ... as I had expected ... they were nowhere as powerful as the original Canon batteries.

I recently bought a new original BP511 and am now only using these two (with about 14,000 shots on my G2 between those).

I definitely think that there are some good third party batteries, but I definitely don't buy that 'All 10$ third party batteries on eBay are far superior to Canon's 50$ batteries' crap that some people seem to believe.

IMO, it's sometimes inspired by that 'If it's from Microsoft, it must be bad' myopia that seems to be the rage with IT 'rebels'

But that's just my 2c.

Best regards,
Andy

A Canon brand BP511 costs around £55 in the UK - I can get 4 generics for that price that are at least as good as the canon one if not better.

Is there any wonder people buy the "no brand"?

Yes, I got a couple of those also. Tax, license, and delivery charges... the total came to $27 for two.
