View Full Version : S2 Will Not Power On (Most of the time)

I've had my S2 for about 2 years now and absolutely love it. Haven't had any problems with it at all - until this past weekend. I tried to turn it on, and it would do nothing. Replaced the batteries with fully charged batteries but it did not help. I went out and got a new date battery. I replaced the date battery, reinserted the same fully charged batteries and it came on! I was so excited! I took a few pictures to test it and it worked great. I turned it off and set it aside for a while. When it tried it again later, it would not power on again.

I have found at times that pulling the batteries (including the date battery) out and reinserting them will allow it to power on. It will stay on and take pictures as long as I keep it on. I can change to review mode and back to photo mode with no problems. But as soon as I turn it off and try to turn it back on, it will not come on again. It also will not come on when I connect the USB transfer cable.

One thing I have noticed since this started happening that I've never noticed before, is that when I close the battery door, the lamp on the front of the camera will flash. It may have always done this, but I have never noticed it until now.

If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, please let me know. I haven't called Canon yet, but am planning on doing that shortly. Thanks!

Sounds like the battery door may not be making good contact. You may want to try just opening and shutting the door next time this happens as a test. There's a microswitch which may not be working right, or the springs which apply pressure to the batteries may be weakening.

That was my thought as well. I have opened and closed the battery door many, many times and it has made no difference. I have also put pressure on the door and around that compartment with no results. I thought it was odd though that the lamp on the front illuminates when I close the battery door. What is odd about it is that it does it before the door is completely closed (just before it slides back to lock in place).
