Hello, this is my first real attempt at editing a photo. The picture was taken without flash and I have the original but don't know how to post a RAW image. Digital Photo Professional was used for editing. I have Photoshop on the way but for now this will have to do. Please tell me how to improve the image, I have no idea what I am doing PP wise.

I find the picture and the door extremely distracting in the background.
I would suggest moving this tree or trying a different angle.
also the composition is poor in my opinion as the tree is dead center. again, play with some different angle and crops.
For shooting this, i would l recommend lowering the iso, f11 and then throw your 40d on a tripod.

Bah, I don't have a tripod...yet. I'm getting it for Christmas! :( I used a coffee table and propped the end of the lens with a bath towel to get the whole tree in the shot. I'll try again!

Good first attempt though :-) And you are working round your equipment limitations well. I like your improvised camera mount idea!
