Here's my first try at using my Scanner instead of my Canon. This was a 90MP image that I resized.

What a 1DsMkIII not good enough for you so you had to upgrade to a $99 flatbed scanner.

Did you just place the paper on the scanner an use something like a black sheet. It's a cool effect.

I'm still trying to get my 1Ds MIII. Try a $250 dollar scanner and that picture wasn't at high res. I calculated that I can make 5700MP images. The scanner will only let you scan 10500x30000 at a time, but you can later combine them in PS. It will scan at 12800 dpi, but limits you to an area per the 10500x30000 limit. It will let you make multiple crop selections to save as multiple files when it does multiple scans. Hard to explain all that.

I made a 6" high box lined with black velvet. It has a hole in the bottom to put a wire through in order to suspend objects if you want. You can then add light modifiers inside the box or by lifting an edge.

I recently did a rose at 191MP by combining 4 shots.
I experimented doing some macro too.

The paper shot was of blue paper that was later given a hue gradient in PS.

Here's the downsized 191MP image of 4 combined scans. I smashed the flower on this one on purpose. I could print this image at 600 ppi on 22"x22" without upsizing!

Wow, that rose is amazing. It begs to be converted to B and W

Nice work. What scanner is it? For some reason my $60 Canon LiDE doesn't even come close.

I think you are right, well maybe tritone. I'm also going to make another scan of petals to use as the background behind the flower.

The scanner is also great for making backgrounds and textures to blend in with other shots. I've been experimenting with lighting with the scanner too. I tried this background with a rose, but scapped the shot because the flower had too many flaws. This shot was taken with the scanner door open, no backdrop, black tool with ambient light shinning through it.

I figured I show the bad as well as the good so....

It was bad due to the parts of the flower that were dying so I tried to save it by making it an almost complete red monochromatic, but it didn't help.
