Got my daughter an S5 IS for Christmas, and I'm wondering what the best rechargeable AA batteries are for it. Most stuff I've read recommends 2500mAH or better - not surprising.
So - brands or sources for good, long-lasting AA rechargeables for the S5?

Get Sanyo Eneloops. They cost more but the new technology means they hold a charge for a very long time if not used.

I am going to get the eneloops. They are not that much. Wal-Mart has 4 of them with the charger for $20.

I second using the Eneloops. I have them for my S5 IS and have been pleased with them. I would look at your local Costco, if you're a member. I was able to get 8 AA, 4 AAA, 2 C adapters, 2 D adapters, and the charger for around $25. Having 8 AA's is convenient as you always have charged batteries ready to go.

No offense to the eneloops, but there are more than the sanyo brand hybrid batteries out there. The hybrids have the benefit of maintaining a charge a long time without use, but for someone who uses the batteries, they are still a 2000-2100 mAh AA battery. Maha Immedion, Kodak low discharge, Ansmann low discharge, uniross hybrio to name a coupleare other hybrid low discharge batteries on the market.

In general though, if there is high use, I personally prefer cycling between 3-4 sets of AA batteries in the 2600 mAh + range. I warn you, that if the battery mentions that it is a 2600 series, it doesn't necessarily mean that it is 2600 mAh, rather it is the SERIES! (i fell in that trap once).

I personally like http://www.thomasdistributing.com/index.htm for batteries. (a side note, I am not in any way associated with this business, website, or ancillary services - just a satisfied customer). It has batteries of all sizes, chargers etc.
I hope this helps and is clearer. Oh, and stay away from the lithium rechargeable batteries for the cameras. 1.) canon doesn't endorse them; 2.) in the beginning of their fully charged state they release more than the stated voltage and therefore can bother the sensitive electronics (this is not from experience but rather reading of others experiences).

I agree. The eneloops are great for casual/infrequent shooters but I'd rather top off some sets of 2700-2500mAh cells before going out to an event and have them last longer.

Here's another vote for Thomas Distributing, I've ordered a few sets of batteries and two chargers from them with excellent service.
