View Full Version : Question about house signage...

On my daily commute, I must pass tons of houses that have a custom painted/carved sign out by the road. Usually, it has either the name of their farm, family name, or just the address.

Some of them are really interesting looking, & I'd like to take pictures of some of them. What are the rules for something like that?

Do I need to contact the homeowner? Most of them I can capture from the road, so I wouldn't be on their property.

Thanks.

Personally I would contact them. Tell them you are interested in the yard signs and are just taking pictures of the most interesting ones.

In a strictly legal sense, I think you would be OK, since you're on public property and taking pictures of something that's plainly visible (and intended to be viewed by its very nature!).

However, you must consider what the property owners might think if they saw someone doing what you want to do - especially in today's semi-paranoid security climate. "Legal" is a nice word, but it won't help you pick the buckshot out of your rear end!

Seriously, I'd ask first.

Forget the buck shots in my rear end... What if they hit my CAMERA?!?!? :)

Thanks Indy & sdommin, I will ask first.
