Hi all, just recently my Cannon Power Shot A70 started to use only F2.8 aperture when taking wide angle shots in auto mode regardless of the lighting conditions of the surroundings. I do not recall the problem occuring before, only after I had the original (defective) CCD replaced. This only happens in auto mode, everything appears to be fine and sharp when it is used in AV or P modes. Anyone have any Advice? Thanks in advance.

Hi all, my Canon power shot A70, if use auto mode, in wild engle, only use F2.8 whatever I am in sunshine or indoor. and picture not sharp like before. if change to AV mode everything is fine. any advice? thnaks in advance.

Gidday, and welcome.

Yes, the A70 will default to f2.8 wide open in auto. It will also switch the flash on if needed, and focus will be the AiAF - regardless of what you have it set to.

My advice to you is to learn your camera and not use auto ever. (If you want a quick mode use P or Av or Tv) I found that with the A75 the case was the same, wide open, the shots weren't that flash. The smaller the aperture, the better the picture quality - I've been getting some good results at the other end - f8.

Hope that helps.

Thanks, but the auto mode seems to have worked quite well before the CCD replacement, might there be some sort of setting that was changed that could cause this kind of problem?

Don't know sorry. I find with the A75 I get the best results using Av Tv or M with the aperture stopped down. The only thing I can think of is your post processing menu (in camera) I have mine set to low sharpening as I do it all in pp. The default one yielded pretty average results.

The settings I use are ; Center weighted or spot metered (I find evaluative is a bit rubbish) and AiAF turned OFF - center focus AF and recompose works a lot better for me.

Cheers.
