I'm using MacBook and Dell 2007WFP as external monitor. I'm setting gamma to 2.2 for both Dell and built-in display.

Do I set to use PC or Mac mode on Dell?
Is the PC or Mac mode for input signal type or gamma (Mac default 1.8 & PC 2.2)?

Recently I read, forgot where, that gamma is now standardized to 2.2. I'm sure you can do a Google on the term "gamma standard" and get some links.

That's what I've read and that's the reason I'm setting my Mac using gamma 2.2. My question is what mode I should be using on the Dell. Mac or PC mode?

Also, it's kinda weird that I can't change contrast of my Dell if I use DVI input. Just doesn't make much sense to me.

Gamma 2.2 is the right choice.
Not sure what you are referring to with the "Mac or PC mode"?

The Dell 20.1 inch monitor he is refering to has a PC mODe, MAC Mode, Gaming Mode and a couple others. It drastically changes the colors, saturation etc of the display when you change it. The problem i had with mine is there seems to be a weird matrix type overlay on the screen that makes it look kind of grainy but not, hard to explain. For that reason I gave my wife the Dell for her to play her Sims on and surfing.

I think if it is hooked up to the mac, put it in mac mode and calibrate it.

yeah... that's the PC & Mac mode I'm talking about. I wonder if has anything to do with gamma.
I'm a little disappointed at the Dell monitor too. I've heard raving review here and turned out not as good as I thought. There is some blending issue with DVI input. Anyway, The stand is beautiful though.

I took a while to get mine set up right. Worth playing around with. Now it is mint. I used my calibrator and then tweaked manually. Now screen is A1 and prints perfect.

Can you explain your steps to get it tweaked?

thanks

Just curious but if you've calibrated it, why tweak beyond that?

Doesn't that negate or at least lessen the effect of calibration?

Used EyeOne II to calibrate and then tweaked using a combination of Adobe Gamma control panel and the monitor controls. Main problem was getting contrast right and in the end I used a RAW image and tried to get the balance between highlight, lowlights and mid range looking right to my eye. Gamma is 2.2 for PC and Mac used to be 1.8 I think. Dunno about modern ones.

Yeah, I agree it seems wrong. I have calibrated plenty of times and always fine with no tweaking needed, but with this monitor it wasn't right and I dunno why. Now it is and the image on screen and out the printer match and also the shots seem to look right on other monitors ... that is all I am concerned about.
