not even sure this will work... but in the photo that hopefully shows up below, I was trying to capture the sense of sadness--even resignation--that this woman seemed to be feeling due to the fact that the person she was presumably waiting for was not showing up. (Note: it is hard to tell on this small version of the photo that she is on the phone.) I hoped to tell that "story" by including the empty chair beside her--and waited for a distant expression on her face. I think the symbolism of the tree, standing between her and the absent friend--although I had no control over it--was a lucky aspect of this shot!

I'm pretty new at this stuff, but I wanted to let you know that I think that's a *great* shot, and it sounds like you really thought it out. I like that it's in black and white, too.....adds to the sadness (as you said).

I like it, but I would have posed her in an area of surrounding gaiety,
such as a park or an outdoor cafe. That way you could contrast the
sad expression on her face with those around her.
Sorry, maybe it's me, but I fail to see any symbolism in that tree.

Hi Steven,
You may want to try experimenting with different reduction ratios. There is a lot of harsh edges introduced in your pic that may be minimized by reducing the image by even increments (ie 25%, 50% or 75%) Give it a try and see what happens.

Thanks for the comments. I'll look at different reduction ratios. Maybe I have an overactive imagination, but to me the tree symbolizes whatever came between the woman and the person she is calling and waiting for--but hasn't shown up (BTW, this was a "found shot," not a posed shot).
