I posted a pic a while back that I took at iso 400 and was asked how I got decent results from such a grainy setting.
The short answer is noise reduction software, such as Noiseninja or Neat Image.
The long answer is:
Shoot raw, and accept that the initial imag ewillb e under exposed.

Then using the photoshop CS raw importer you pump up the expose a bit. I hear other raw tools are also nice, but since work in ps all the time I feel no need to look elsewhere.

After that run it through noise reduction, in this case neat image.

And finaly apply levels, saturation and sharpness adjustments as you see fit.

And voila, you have a decent picture.
