Amazon says that the 20d will be released on Oct. 15th....a little later than some thought. Is there any reason why some dealers would get the 20d before Amazon does?
It is good to have a set date anyways...I am getting excited to be broke.

In Denmark the embargo will be lifted on september 20. from that date Canon Denmark can ship the cameras to the stores.
Maybe Canon will provide "normal" shops with cameras before online shopping sites like Amazon??

That is interesting. Maybe 'real' camera stores get the luxury of releasing it a few weeks ahead of other stores such as Amazon…you might be right. However, now that Canon has made the announcement that the 20D is coming out soon, why don't they just give a specific date?

Did you see the order info on this same page to pick up a 20D for $900? Ridiculous. Amazon really has gone down hill. I would never order anything other then a book from them.

Hmm rumor mill is grinding over on Dpreview.
Some have checked their online orders and the orders have changed to a status that usually mean the item is in stock :!:

I wasn't saying that I don't believe you at all.....just saying that it is interesting because I don't see why Canon would do that. Amazon is the largest online store in the world.
Yeah, I saw that guy selling a 20D for $900. I emailed him and he is real sketchy. Claims he is a dealer and that he bought "her for his kids but they don't want her." I don't know about that........wait, yes I do....It is total BS!

Well that would be nice but . . . Calumet listed the Epson 4000 printer as being available last December. They are still waiting. I guess it will come - sometime but it looks like everyone is just guessing.

So does anyone know when B&H will be preselling? You'd think with everyone else preselling and now new of the 20D coming out on the 13th there would be a preorder option. I want the 20D NOW! :D

Hopefully everyone understands that the release/ ship date is the 13th. I'm sure there will be a one to two weeks in transit before hitting the stores & then how quickly will they put them on the shelf. Or ship out to customers.

Why would you expect two weeks for transit?! Maybe if you live in Alaska or Hawaii.
Now, Canon may not ship on the 13th. It may be the end of the week. But, in most cases, shipping will be a few days, and most camera shops will call their customers the day they receive the cameras.
Mail order firms may drag their feet. I know North Tampa Photography will call the day they receive the cameras and folks like me will go there straight away to get our cameras.
Cheers,
Mitch

This is the info I got from a local retailer, when Canon was here last week showing off the 20D. It looks like the Major Canon retailers will get the first of the large shipments & then the rest. 20% kits & the rest will be bodies. I also believe that the shipment has to come from overseas Japan? It's just best to have our $$$ ready and wait.

I just got reconfirmation from Canon Denmark about the shipping dates.
First of the release date will be the same worldwide!
They confirmed the date 20. september +/- a few days would be the day the camera are in danish stores. Notice the -
So maybe end of next week :D

I see the staus of the 20D has changed on the B&H website from "Coming Soon" to "Out of Stock". The must mean they are days away from pre-order status.
I would much rather give my money to B&H then to Wolf Camera, who I currently have a pre-order with. If B&H hits before Wolf ships I am buying from B&H and cancelling with Wolf.
EDIT
-----
I called to check on a Pre-Order and was surprised to see that even thought B&H does not have these in they will charge the card when the order is placed. I am surprised by this because most retailers don't handle it this way. :x

September 13th *is* the U.S. release date.
Canon is shipping out TODAY via FedEX to all local retailers that were allocated initial 'first ship' stock.
That means that your local reputable retail dealer (NOT Best Buy, for the clueless) will have 3-5 units in stock after FedEx delivers Monday morning (maybe sooner, if they asked for Saturday delivery and will be there Saturday to receive -- but Canon may still embargo those units until Monday morning, anyway).
Large retailers (like Best Buy, etc) have an internal distribution chain that will delay getting stuff into their stores for some number of days/weeks, depending on how efficient their distribution channels are. Canon has no control over those guys, because they interpose their distribution/warehouse network into the soup.
Best bet is a local camera shop that has a reputation of getting early stock. I'll let you know *my* favorite local shop *after* Monday.
