Having noticed the list of stolen Sigma lenses and the huge 100-400 f2.8 Zoom they have made (I think thats the one?) i was simply wondering what bodies does Sigma make? I noticed people saying they make then but cant find any details on them.

Thanks.

I think...those are Build on demand for the richer people ;)? but its said they dont do that on their site... anyway same thing as the Nionk 400 (or 600 o.o???) F/2.8 that costs about 10,000$

I think youre mistaken with the 100-300 :o?

I was asking about bodies not lenses, The video on the new sigma lens shows a Sigma Body attached to it.

I believe Sigma makes the bodies with the Foveon sensor. Apparently others do too.

In theory a great idea, but it hasn't really caught on with the general photograhpy fraternity.

Thanks for the details. Can't really understand the benifits of the Sigma bodies though?

ok, the lens that you are talking about is a 200-500 2.8 but as for the bodies, as far as i know Sigma makes only one body at the moment and that is the SD14. the thing that makes them different is the Foveon sensor that they use which you can read all about in the links that were posted above your last comment. if you do wish to read more about the SD14, you can check Sigma's own website for more details:

They have been making good performing bodies for years - the sensor is pretty unique that is used. Generally they are a bit more expensive than say a Canon counterpart with less specs.

SD9
SD10
SD14

And they have just come out with a compact camera as well. DP1

I want a SD 14 it's clarity and sharpness at 100 % crop is amazing!

I am not impressed so far with either the new 1D's III or 1 DIII for image quality!!!:(

LOL I am very happy with my 30D I wouldn't swap it with any new 1D body unless I was sure they were as good as they should be.

I would love a 1DIIn!

I love the IQ on the Sigma. The lenses can be variable though. I saw one with a nasty soft patch in one corner.

The IQ of Foveon is great. High ISO is lousy (anything over 100ISO really is pretty bad).

The downside - only 5mp!

So how long have you had a 1DsMk3 then?

I knew about the focus issues for some 4 months so of course I haven't owned a 1D III. I am going of other peoples photos and Canons samples.

There is nothing wrong with having a Sigma in your kit as well;)

Then you might want to find another hobby...

Why would I do that? I consider my 30D amazing at 100% crop with my 24-70L love it ;-)

Yes, 5MP, but that's 5 Foveon megapixels, where each Foveon pixel is equivalent to 1 red, 1 green, and 1 blue pixel from a camera with a more conventional sensor. This makes the SD 14 equivalent to a 15MP camera.

It all boils down to the definition of "pixel." If you equate a pixel with a photosite, then the SD 14 is a 5MP camera. If, on the other hand, you equate a pixel to the information from a photosite, the the SD 14 is a 15MP camera, since each photosite has three outputs.

The Foveon sensor, and Fuji's super CCD sensor, are causing much turmoil in the "what is a pixel" department. The Foveon sensor used in the SD 14 is perhaps best thought of as a three dimensional sensor, having a width and height of 5MP with a depth of three pixels: 5MP × 3 = 15MP.

I have seen some stunning shots from Sigma bodies with a 'life' to them that I find very attractive. I considered swapping over when the SD14 came out but restriction of lens choice and cost/value/specification at the time shifted me towards the 5D ... that is a body with similar characterists.
