Hi, I was wondering if anyone of you has came across an LCD protector that will fit the whole screen area of the G9. I recently ordered the following from Ebay only to find that it only covers the active LCD screen and not the frame around it. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280168566332
Here is an image to illustrate the difference:

I know this doesn't seem to be a big deal (as the active LCD screen is protected) but it just looks ugly.
So please let me know if anyone has found one or knows where I could buy one.
Thanks :)

Office Depot sells generic "PDA/Cell Phone/Camera LCD" covers. I think there were three sheets for eight dollars or so. They are far and away larger than my G-9 screen. I cut them down with a scissors, and all is well.

PS, how did you get your screen to glow orange like that? Custom Function?

Lol, I think it was photoshop'd. Getting a larger PDA screen protector and cutting it is the better route.

If it's like the XTI you should be able to replace it cheaply and easily.

I like the custom sized screens you can get from Invisible Shield....
www.shieldzone.com. They do a very good job of cutting the screen to fit the LCD display. I have a full-body shields for my iPod and iPhone, and one on the LCD of my MKII. I plan to order one for the G9 (assuming I keep it...).

Giottos Schott glass protectors in 3" work very well. They are scratch resistant, very clear and don't have that patterned effect that all vinyl stick-ons display. And the corners won't start to get peeled off when inserting the camera in a tight bag or pocket. Though you need to keep your nose clean, as grease gets on the protector and it will need to be wiped down. Hint toward attaching one of these: Shoot an overexposed shot and display it while you are affixing the protector. You get to see all the statistics and can make sure you affix it with everything in view. Now my neck-strung camera can bounce on zippers and whatnot and I am not the least bit concerned.

Radtech1 - The orange screen is indeed photoshoping, to make my point clear here ;-)
Thank you all for your suggestions, I think I will the Giottos Schott glass protector a try.

I got this one click (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120192850557) off eBay. You get three and it fits the 40D as well. Also you get a alcohol cleaning tissue so a decent and easy to use package. Fits the full G9 screen and most of the 40D screen (just misses a mm or so all around the extreme edges.

Just brought my G 9 home today, and will likely order a protector from these people, who I have already been using. It will most likely be ordered as a custom cut size but the price remains the same & more importantly they only charge about $2.00 to mail it (or them). I will order some for my 40D at the same time. (I cover the top display too.)
http://www.daproducts.com/index.html
UPDATE. I have checked the website and they offer one for the 40D but not the G 9 which is made with a silkscreened boarder to hide the small glue strips that hold it to the camera's LCD. You have the following choice, a custom cut to your exact measurements (which look like 2 11/16" X 2 1/16" for the G 9 [very small radius at the corners]) while the pre made one for a 40D should be 2 11/16" X 2 1/8" (or 2 5/32, not that certain & usually order my custom cut ones using mm's) but I can't find the actual sixe of the part in their listing. The radius of the LCD on my 40D is much larger than on the G 9, but it wouldn't be an issue to use the 40D protector & shave the top & bottom edges a bit to make it work on a G 9, or so I think. I'll find out in a week or so when they arrive. Hope you understand what I am trying to explain. Metric measurements are G 9 68 mm X 52 mm, 40D are 68 mm X 55 mm.Larry.

Just received a G9 screen protector from Jhongsinc.com. Fits well, no glue, easy to apply. Two included in the package for $7.00.

I had it in mind to try Giottos Schott glass protector, then found out they were backordered till mid Jan. Anyone have one on their G9? Sounded like they don't have one specifically, but one that fits near good enough. Sure like to hear how good..........

I purchased the http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=350008768749&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=022 for my g9. I have one for my 40d and I had one when I owned an xti. I haven;t received it yet, when I do I will report back. But I know from the others had, they were real good fits and didn't detract from the LCD's performance.

Well, lets hurry up and get that sucker installed! lol.
Hey, it looks like a pretty thin frame around the glass. How is it mounted, adhesive to the LCD screen over the camera frame? The G9 has a pretty generous 1/8" backing frame the LCD is adhered to.
Let us know how it fits. I assume your other two has/had the protector on long enough you were satisfied with them staying adhered and no fogging under the glass after use?

No fogging. They both had adhesive that went around the entire perimeter of the lCD. In fact they looked like they were part of the lcd when installed properly.

I bought a screen protector made to fit the Nintendo DS screen (the larger one of the two screens), and it covers the G9 LCD viewing area plus the frame area, as if it were custom designed for the G9! Worth the $10 since I didn't have to cut or round off corners, etc. Threw away the smaller screen protector.

Why do you need a screen protector if the G9 already comes with an anti-scratch surface?

Jbond,
I didn't have time to scroll back to the answer for your question, but another individual here did a good job justifying the need! I bought it hook, line and sinker and ordered one of the Giottos Schott glass protectors. Pegashus, is that flexible clear vinyl type? I assume it wasn't glass.

I've owned my g9 for about 2 wks and did get a few light scratches when I first started using it. I think I had it loose in a backpack pocket that had a pen and coins in it. My fault and I should've checked it first.
I am now looking for protective covers for that exact reason. I definitely recommend some cover as that beee-yotiful 3" screen needs to stay clean.

And what you think is the screen is really just a screen protector and can be user replaced for about $20. It sounds like many of you are putting screen protectors on their screen protectors.:D

Hi Karl - how does one go about replacing that screen? I've looked on the Canon site and can't find that level of detail nor where to order that screen.

You call the repair center and they send you out a kit with DIY instructions. For the 30D it was about $18 which is a 2.5" screen. For the G9 I would guess about $20-25 since it is a 3 inch screen.

Well hell. Guess it pays to verify everything you read five different ways. I haven't asked Canon, but it is said on here, your G9 has a user replaceable screen protector on the LCD.
If so, then I guess some of us are over customizing. Big deal. I'm willing to make a mistake or two as I learn.
Just now came across this thread on the subject.

Canon can keep their protector that evidently scratches. I will stick to the Schott glass protector that is truly scratch resistant.
Why go protector-less until the time the scratches are so bad, that you just have to contact Canon and buy their protector, plus shipping, and go through what it takes to rip off the old one and affix the new?
And what happens when you affix the new one and you discover you trapped dust underneath it? You’ve got trouble at that point, because Canon uses the double faced foam tape that gives you one shot to get it right.
Now that you’re done with putting the Canon replacement on, you can start putting scratches on the replacement until you have to do it all over again.

Well, I guess I have a question.
I ordered a 3" Giottos Glass protector for a Canon G9 from Adorama. I rechecked on the Giottos site and they show this size. I received a 2 1/2" size.
Anyone have a problem from Adaorama? Guess I'll find out tomorrow if I got schooled.

Post a link to where you can get a replacement screen. I was looking at replacing a 40d screen and was quoted $80.00 for the lcd and then shipping on top of that.

I decided to go with a glass LCD protector as well. Just not the expensive one.
CWMEHRING seemed to like his and I did not want the film type. I've heard you can see texture on the surface at angles and I hardly ever look at the screen straight on (unless it's landscape). Glass seems more permanent.
