Hi guyz..
I have the Canon 350D, and i just bought a studio lighting kit ,
the problem is i dont have a sync port to install the sync wire between the flash and my camera !!
so what I can do now !?
i cant fire the studio flashes at the same time with my camera, and if i use the camera flash i'll get some unnecessary lights !! << I guess !!
any recommendations !?
Thanx,
Imad Hasan.

Hi Imad, welcome to POTN!
You need a hotshoe adapter like this to connect a PC cord to your camera.
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=Search&A=details&Q=&sku=89979&is=REG&addedTroughType=search
As a more convenient but more expensive alternative, you could buy one of the various radio trigger systems available. The transmitter mounts on your hotshoe.
One other option - since most studio strobes have built-in slaves, any flash unit with manual flash capability attached to your hotshoe can be used to trigger the strobes.

Grab you the ebay 4 or 16 channel triggers. They work okay for learning, are cheap, and you will love not being tethered to one of your strobes. If you have an additional $12 or so, get an additional, separate receiver for any strobes beyond the first. Not required though, since most strobes have a built-in slave.

The wired approach is a good quick method, and can always be used in emergency situation when the wireless systems fail... always think backup and redundancy! Don't let the lack of a few cables ruin your shoot!
But you say radios never fail? What happens when it gets legs and disappears... or the batteries corrode, or you drop it in the pool, or you have the 4 channel model, and 4 other people keep setting off your receivers... etc

If you are looking to spend that kind of money, might as well invest in Pocket Wizards. They are about the same range. They are pretty much the best radio triggers on the market currently, but are expensive. PW multimax's are the top of their line, but are cool as hell.

Look into the Elinchrom El-Skyport Universal set.

Start with a cord.
You are obviously new, no need to make things more complicated.
If studio work continues to enamor, purchase those very expensive radio slaves, and use that same corded setup as a backup. Michael Bass is right. The idea that expensive radio slaves cannot fail is just incorrect. The fact that they are powered by batteries should be sufficient to convince one of a very distinct possibility of failure.
But, the idea that studio flash photography just cannot proceed without a radio slave is just bonkers.
A cord setup is far more reliable than an inexpensive radio slave, and far less expensive that a reliable radio slave set.
I personally use the inexpensive radio slaves. I like them a lot. But, I would never consider even trying them if I did not have a cord backup (actually I have two backup cords and extra radio slaves).
As Curtis indicates, your problem can be solved with the purchase of a simple and inexpensive camera hotshoe to PC adapter (assuming your studio lights came with a cord). Less than $25.00 get you going now.
Enjoy! Lon

The Nikon AS-15 camera hotshoe to PC adapter is a nice one and is just what you need for the studio lights you already have. It accommodates both standard PC cords and the more reliable screwlock PC cords, and has a shoe locking feature that keeps it from moving around on the hotshoe.
You definately do not need the Canon infrared device to use with your studio lights. In fact that would be a very bad purchase just to fire studio light.
Just get the Nikon AS-15 or some other capable camera hotshoe to PC adapter and start using your studio flash gear now. Deal with radio slaves later.

thanx a million :D
but u sure the Nikon AS-15 will work on my Canon 350D !?should be fine. PC doesn't communicate e-ttl info. Just make sure the sync voltage from the strobes is under 12 volts (6 if you listen to canon) or you'll fry your camera.

Those lights have a sync voltage (trigger voltage) of 9v according to the B&H catalog.
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/172748-REG/Multiblitz_PROSTU4_Profilux_400_Monolight.html
These should work fine when connected to your camera. But if you're paranoid, you could use a Wein Safe-sync adapter like this.

Those flash units will not damage your XT (350D). Forget the safe sync, just another layer of possible problems.
