I'm the last guy who should be commenting on ID's Ira, but I would guess Savannah Sparrow. Regardless, these are two great shots, especially the second one.

American passerines fly right over my head, metaphorically speaking of course, but it's a pretty little bird and a nice post anyway. :)

I should have stated it, but this bird is only 2-3 inches in length.

Very fine shots Ira, and I don't know myself about the bird,( book put away for my trip ) but that would be a funny black bird. No black. Good job on this little bird, was it hard to shoot after all those large one's? steve

Maybe a Le Conte's or a Sharp-tailed Sparrow?

Great shots BTW!

Nice shots, pretty sure it is a sparrow of some sort. That's as close as I can get.

It's definitly a Savannah Sparrow, which are by the way closer to six inches. Size can be very hard to judge in the field, and usually shouldnt' be used as a decisive way to identify birds. Just to give you a comparrison, the Ruby-throated Hummingbird is almost 4 inches long, there isn't a bird in the USA which is less than 3 inches.

Savannah Sparrow in a rather typical habitat. It has to be bigger than 2 - 3 inches however.
