Here is a Morning and Evening Shots which I find best Lighting.

I find the first hour in the morning and the last hour in the evening best Light conditions for these birds.

I will have to try that somtime, i know it's hard to get a good shot of them during the day.

Gary,

Everytime I log on and look at your heron shot's I am amazed as each set just gets better and better.
The first fella has got that " morning look" about him for sure and the second the light and colours look beautiful.

Ahhh, but I hate to get up in the morning, I'm going to start getting shots of bats :)

Beautiful work as always Gary, absolutely lovely light.. I always find myself out at 12 Noon

I think you get better action and Light from the Herons.

I had a chance to take that first shot at ISO 200 and Slow Shutter speed as the bird just did not move!!!

On the first shot the bird was sitting so Still and I was on Tripod so I shot at f5.6 and ISO 200 and a slow shutter. This really brings out detail with the 40D.:)

That first one is so sharp...Great shots...what do you do with all these fabulous Heron shots? You must have thousands by now! You need to start a Gallery someplace, just for Herons....steve

Currently sitting in a hotel room in Cody, WY while a snowstorm works its way through and those GBH shots look wonderful.

Wow - I like the lighting, it really is true that they are the best times in terms of quality lighting to shoot. I really like #2 - good, sharp, BIF with nice lighting to boot. Hang that one off the wall :)

The herons are a Always thing but I have projects for the other birds. Right now I'm working with Eagles.
