View Full Version : Get a G9 to Compliment my XTi?

I'm looking for a smaller point and shoot to take motorbiking. I like to take a lot of photos when I'm on a trip and I had illusions of taking my DSLR all the time but find I don't get it out of my luggage nearly enough when I should or could and I miss shots.

I haven't seen a G9 in person. Would it be a good companion to my DLSR? Too much overlap perhaps? Maybe a 850IS would be better?

A bonus I just noticed is that the XTi and G9 appear to use the same battery and I have xtras. :)

yup, same batteries. I wouldn't bother with a G9 if i had a 350. Maybe you just need a more convenient bag for the 350? I often us a Gap shoulder bag for travel. Folds flat, is light and people don't notice so much. Choice is personal tho' and if you do think you'd use a G9 more then go for it.

I'm really looking for good image quality in a small package. It doesn't have to be low light image quality. I won't take pictures indoors but it should be able to take a picture on a cloudy day!

I have a Pentax Optio 550 for my current P&S and it does very poorly unless it's very sunny out.

I think the G9 will make an excellent companion.

The 350D is small for a D-SLR but you can't fit it in your pocket, no matter what lens you put on it.

The G9 really can produce excellent pictures as long as your expectations are in the right place, you won't be dissappointed.

G9 is an awesome compliment. It compliments my XTI and 40D

The G9 is the funnest camera I've used in a long time. It does alot for the size and price.

Def. pick it up. I also have an XTi & just picked up a G9 b/c I dont want to carry my DSLR when I ski. The G9 also has a pretty sweet underwater housing that is relatively cheap too :)

What about G6's they are cheaper, better aperature (2.0 - 3.0) still RAW, and a swivel 2" screen.

Of course you should get a G9 to go with your DSLR.

What other answer did you expect by asking on a forum like this?

I took my G3 on this trip (http://cabuhs.net/rides/bandits_west.htm). I kept it in the front corner of my tank bag for easy access.

consider shutter lag. DSLR is better than G9

Don't tell me that you are trying to compare a DSLR with a P&S?

So I went to look at a G9 and it's a gorgeous bit of kit. (can yanks talk like that? :) )

Anyway it was a little larger than I was expecting, so I am leaning toward the SD850is. I know it won't be quite as good as the G9 but images I've seen so far look pretty good. I know I'll lose some control but I just need a snapshot camera with great IQ.

The G9 is the very best camera in the universe! Even better than a 1DsMkIII.

For some people that is. 8)
