I use primarily 2 lens for birds I have a 300mm /4 and a 500mm /4 Each can be used with my Canon 1.4TC.

It is a nice lens but the 400/5.6 is preferred for fast AF and the 300/4 with 1.4 TC is a 420/5.6.
