I've recently posted a picture of my car with a similar effect to the first picture below, but didn't really stir an interest within this forum, but I haven't given up with it! I don't know how people feel about digital effects on this forum, but hope I'm not overstepping the mark :-)
anyway, maybe this one will go down a bit better, I'm just interested to see what people feel about the effect, and I suppose just editing like this in general, thanks. I've also included an action shot from the day, not sure if it's that interesting but I quite like it.
no need to be polite by the way, I'm starting at the bottom so nothing to loose :D

the shot above is my friend Guillaume going for a shot

the shot above is a capture of a boule hitting another boule, it looks really cool when it happens as it's very hard to do, and also is quite irritating for your opponent hehe :-) We set this shot up, but it doesn't really capture the moment, any ideas on how to capture this movement better?
cheers,
Martin

Without knowing the game I'm afraid not , however thats a fine example of a zoom blur. I like it.

yeah, it's great in the summer, those shots were taken at a recent barbecue in my back garden, the petangi just goes on in the background while people chat and eat, it's very sociable and chilled. And eveybody is rubish so its not competitive really. Well, it is with the boys ;-)

Not sure what camera you are using Martin, but If your camera supports it I would try a longer shutter speed for accentuated blur with a second curtain synched flash at reduced power to define the shape of the mobile ball at the end of the blur.
You could also just manufacture the blur in photoshop and achieve the same effect....

thanks for the comments people.
I'm using a 300d, and I can increase the shutter speed, but not sure about how to get the secondry synched flash. From my memory of reading the manual, the only option i think that gives this effect is the night time portrait shot, but I could be wrong. Great idea though, any idea if it can be done on a 300d/rebel?

Well they are nice images but they do not tell much of a boule story.
I think that the ZOOM in image #1 is distracting. I'd like to see a shot that better shoes the context of the game -- maybe the ball hitting the gound (including people examining the shot , etc). But, for this shot "as is" at least show the ball leaving the hand.
I do not see much purpose in the second shot.
I'd suggest looking at other sports shots (baseball & pitcihing) ?) to get ideas from the pros.

while i'm not a pro, here is a boules shot that I think tells a good story. I sat with these guys for about 2 hours before getting this one!

Yes.. this is a wonderful shot.. it tells it all.
I have often thought of buying a set as I always liked to curl. The original medieval (I think) game is still played (I was there) on the lawn of the Lewes castle in Sussex.
My sister took her kids to France years ago and while they all learned the game, they never bought a set.
Thanks to all of you for bringing our attention tto this interesting sport through all of your thought provoking images.

Thans for the comments. When I was in France last year, I was going to buy a set for our family. But they were too heavy to carry!
