Love this camera! It's versatile, in spite of being reasonably compact....

Pic 1: It has a wonderful macro ability. This caterpillar was about 1/4 of an inch long.

Pic 2: Very nice zoom at lower resolution settings.

Perhaps you could tell us what camera you're talking about. Pic's not showing, either.

Welcome to POTN.

Duh:oops:....Sorry, got a G9 1 month ago. I assume you are kidding when you say the pics aren't showing. The first pic is of a caterpillar on a Lavender Swedish Ivy.

Here are a couple more:
pic1:Macro shot of Mixed sized M&Ms in the festive Christmas colors...you could almost get my finger print off the 'M'

pic 2:Also love the electronic ND filter!! It managed to slow the sutter speed sufficiently for this:

No, we weren't kidding. These last shots show (twice, in fact - once attached and once embedded), the first one(s) didn't.

Sigh...I really stink at displaying attachments...apologies

Now they're showing. Why do you say, "... at lower resolution settings"?

Pictures all work for me.

That moon has to be a crop from a larger photo, right? Even so, the G9 is loads better zoomwise than mine, I've never been able to pick up much detail on the moon with the G6.

As andy said, yeah, great display of the range of the camera!

Coming from a 3.2MP camera (S1-IS) and 10X optical, I was initially a little apprehensive with 'moving down' to a 6X. I typically take my family pics at 2MP (1600x1200) so when I found out that I could go up to 15X zoom without distortion, the G9 was a no brainer. The 12MP I guess makes up for the loss optical zoom. As a bonus, it has an indicator so that I know when I'm going from digital zoom (with no distortion) to digital zoom (with distortion). Okay, perhaps this isn't news for you guys, but coming from an older digital camera, it was a revalation to me.
This G9 has opened my eyes from just taking pictures to taking stuff I don't mind showing people. Things I never saw till just recently.

Sorry slight cheat here.....M3 mode 1600x1200. 6 optical + 2.5 digital + 1.75 external zoom. If my math is correct that would be just under 1500mm on a 35mm equilavant.

Nice pics. Further proof of the G9's great veratility.

Since digital zoom is nothing more than a crop, don't include it in your math.

Rules rules rules ;) ... I'll keep that in mind for future.

Meh. It's like saying your car makes 500 hp... at the crankshaft with the alternator and water pump disconnected. :-)
