Anybody using additional strobes with the G9 and housing? I've tried searching but can't some up with anything yet. Surely I'm not going to be limited to the built-in flash am I? Just looking to answer some questions before I purchase the housing. Thanks!

Hi!
I think sealife is a firm, who provides wide range of underwater accessories. Try to visit their site.

Have a look on www.scubacoard.com they may have some better answers.

It's easily done, but not cheap. You will fire them by blocking off the light output from the built in flash but you install a small fitting (or 2) to fire the remote slaves through a fiber optic cable. The fitting comes with the strobe kit, along with some form of mounting material and the cable locks into the fitting using an O ring. You will need to decide whether or not you want the strobe to fire at one power level and then match the camera settings to the flash output, or a strobe with adjustable power settings. Sea & Sea or Ikelite & Inon seem to be the popular choices.
(I expect to upgrade to a G9 shortly so have been doing my homework). Use the links in the G 9 underwater housing question for more help.

Thanks for all the good info. I had already gone over budget by getting the G9 and was hoping to avoid the expensive housings and saw the Canon housing was pretty affordable. Looks like at this point I may just use the built-in until I get some more cash. Thanks again!

I don't know if this will work but I have my S1 IS and housing up for sale & a photo of the adapter I built can be seen in this photo (if it opens) with 2 eyelets for my dual strobe fiber optic cables. The built in flash is right behind them.

I see. That's pretty cool. If I didn't already have my camera I might have been interested. Thanks!

Well if that worked out you can sort of see it with the dual strobes attached at the end of this album.

I think you will be happier with the G 9, just the large LCD by itself is a great improvement over what I have been using. Using dual strobes means shooting in manual & you need to be able to read the settings & change them quickly underwater or the target has swam away.
