I'm a photographer for my college paper, and have really gotten hooked on sports photography this semester. I'm going to try to expand out to local youth and high school sports, selling prints next semester to pay for some better equipment.
I'm thinking zenfolio probably, but if you've got any suggestions, let me know! Otherwise, please share the site you use to sell your sports photos to parents. I'm pretty clueless when it comes to sales, and could really use some inspiration! Thanks

I have both the .com & .net domain names. The www.FrankCizek.net one goes to PrintRoom.
Not much in there yet, but it's already paid for itself, & it provides a link back to the .com site.

Sonny - Do you upload originals to Zenfolio and let the customer decide the crop? I think you said "yes" when I asked on soocool.
BTW - Why not offer bigger than 8x10?

I've got about 40,000 sports photos on there. Most of it is high school sports.
As far as cropping goes - In the past I went with a loose 5x7 (1:1.4) crop that my customers could use for 4x6 (1:1.5) and 8x10 (1:1.25) prints. I recently saw a graphical representation of a 1:1.35 crop vs the 1:1.25 and 1:1.5 and it works a little bit better. The 1:1.35 crop leaves about the same amount of extra space on all four sides of the main image for the print crops.

Bobby, I cropped these at 1600x2166, which is optimized for 10x8, 5x7 and 4x6. But the customers can change the crop a little bit too.
Thanks for the idea of offering larger prints. I may put some large files up. I think Mpix or EZPrint only offer up to 11x14.

Not to hijack the thread, but...
I would love to hear the process followed and resources used to determine print pricing. I'm in the process of re-pricing as I feel I'm a bit out of sync with the market here in Chicago. Any input would be appreciated.

When first getting a youth league here I matched the price of another company. However, have no raised the prices because of increases in everything else..to determine them just grabbed a lot of companies order forms and compared, didn't over price (though some did way to much) and didnt underprice...chose a middle of the road amount that was fair for the area. Still kinda cheap if ya ask me though.

The cart calculates sales tax for Maryland residents (my state) and adds it to the total. I use Photocart to then tell me how much tax I need to send to the State each quarter.
