Which one do you think I should use?

Camera is an XTi + grip + flash(sometimes)
Lens is a 24-105L or either a 70-200 (eventually)

055xb supports 15lbs but is a bit bigger
190x supports 11lbs but is a bit smaller

If you're not afraid of a little extra girth go for the 055.

I did kind of feel that the 190x was a better size for me...will it be capable of my gear?

depends more on the head. Go with a sturdy ball head like the 486RC2 or 488RC2.

I just got in my BM Monopod 681B and the BM BH 488RC2 . Gotta say that BH was my best choice cause latter in the future i plan to get a BM Tripod to use the BH on . BTW the BM Monopod 681B is also very awesome . Built more sturdy and higher quality than i thought either one would be . The BH supports 17.6-lbs which is plenty all i need for now ! Also the panning with the 488RC2 is so smooth it is perfect for any tripod !

i was going to go with the 486RC2 for sure :)For tripod use, the 488RC2 is MUCH better than the 486RC2. This is because it's stronger (less likely to creep) and the 488RC2 has the separate pan release lever as well.

I do use a 486RC2 on my monopod, but I can tolerate a little creep with my heavier lenses on a monopod.

I just got the 055 xprob and love it. The ability to flip the center column horizontal for macro work without removing it from the legs like I have to do with the 3021bpro is a great improvement. Love those Bogen Manfrottos. I also have two 488 rc2 ballheads, they are great too. One at home, one in the vehicle at all times. The 055 has an older ballhead mounted with a sliding plate for Macro work. Great setup.

I got the 190XPROB and it holds my equipment perfectly fine. It boils down to your usage habbits. I did get the 3039 head which was WAY more than what I needed. I now have the 488/RC2 which works great.

I use the 190MF4 and love it, its a decent height yet compacts small enough and is light enough that I dont mind dragging it with me everywhere.

I am not sure about the others in the 190 series, but if they are anything like mine I think they would be great.

I have it topped with the 3437 Magnesium head which works like a champ even with my 40D and 24-70 2.8L or 70-200 2.8L.

I've been looking into a better tripod myself lately. I'm pretty sure I've finished researching this subject for now. The info I found here at POTN was most useful as usual. :)

I've settled on the 055X ProB with the 488RC2 ball head. Should be fine for what I've got in my sig.

The panning ability is why I'm going with the 488 instead of the 486. That seems to be the general consensus, and it sounds like a good enough reason to me.

I'm going with the 055X because of the overall extended height. I'm 6'1 and not being able to stand up straight when looking through the viewfinder has gotten very old. Those days will soon be over. The 3021B Pro was another option but I like the extra load capacity the 055X gives, plus the horizontal ability.

It ought to be fun shooting from a real set-up instead of my current wobbler. :)

I have the previous version 055/3021 (not the BPRO), and it works well for me. 'Course, I use it with a 100-400 and also an 85mm spotting scope, so the extra weight is appreciated...
