Well I can't dispute any part of CDS's version of the day. As much as I'd like to.
So.... I got tired of the terns, and I was getting hungry. I get very grouchy when I'm hungry, so I strolled off to get lunch while CDS played in the water. I'll have to admit that I missed the best part of the day because of lunch. The tide was *just* going out, and all the little shorebirds came out for lunch. CDS had a blast, and I missed it. Next time I'll be better prepared.
Amazingly, the plastic bag containing our lunch did not blow away in the 30mph wnds, nor did the gulls get it. The sun, however, had warmed my Italian sub considerably, but not unbearably. And this was the only time that day when I appreciated the 11 pounds of ice in the cooler. There is nothing like a Starbucks Double Shot chilled to just above freezing. Yum. Actually, Yum Yum.
Pleasantly satiated I watched CDS as all the little birds roamed around him. Because he had been standing still behind his tripod the birds just strolled by and around him. I, on the other hand, had to go marching through the birds to get anywhere near the shoreline. I then had to fight quite a bit to stay patient and wait until they got used to me.
Since it takes years to get used to me, I had no chance with the birds. So all of these shots (except the first) are fairly serious crops.
Which I hate doing.
But there's no way that I'm going to let CDS have all the fun.
A Semi-Palmated Plover. These birds are cute as heck. He never did turn around to face that little bush, which would have made for a much better composition, but what can I do?

A Semi-Palmated Sandpiper.

Another SPS. Caught with the right light the coloring is quite beautiful.

After quite some time wading through the surf and trying to be patient, this little Sanderling took a bath not too far away.

And then he stretched, and flew off. I assume he was clean, but there's always the nagging thought in my mind that he didn't like me.

A White Rumped Sandpiper strolling by.

This is a Ruddy Turnstone, who was digging in a little hole with a Sanderling for quite some time. Finally the Sanderling flew off, allowing me to get a shot that didn't contain an out-of-focus bird. These birds are quite beautiful when flying. You'll have to trust me, because both shots were horribly out of focus.

Finally, a Tern just sitting in the sand.

By theway, these IDs are all my best guesses with the help of Sibley's. If I'm wrong on any, please let me know.
