Camera upgrade S30 to S50

Hello. Unfortunately my beloved Powershot S30's multicontroller and the "playback/rec" mode slider have decided to give up working after 30,000 pictures of use.

So I get on the phone and I call Canon. They said they can fix the multicontroller and the slider thing for $130. But then they offered me another deal. I could exchange my Powershot S30 for an S50 (refubished) for $225. I looked at the prices of S50's and even used ones go for more than that on Ebay.

Is this a worthy deal, or do any of you think that the S50 is a crummy camera with a lot of issues? I think I'll make my mind up tomorrow. All comments and thoughts will be apprecaited.

Ouch, sorry to hear about your S30. I have come to the conclusion that my next camera will not be a S series, and if I was going to stay with the P&S style would probably go with the A series.

That said and done I have a S45 now that serves me well and you are very familiar with the S series. As long as the warranty was as new then this does not sound like a bad deal.

Are you sure you don't NEED to go the the DSLR route?? :twisted:

lol yeah. If I had the funds, I would acquire a digital rebel to get me into the dslr ring or at the minimum a powershot Pro-1. I placed my order friday and I should have my same cam with a 5.0mp sensor this time on tuesday.

Jeez, this hurricane here "Frances" hitting our city of Tampa FL, USA, is realy blowing like mad and I wish I had a still image camera to get shots of these skies. Oh well, at least I have my vidcam :?

YES, that is what I'm going to have to do, these compact cameras aren't good enough for me anymore. :cry: :roll: :?
