Is there a big difference between A and S series about image

Is there a really big difference between A and S series regarding to image quality?
Im talking about for example the S45 S60 (4mp and 5mp) to A80 A95 (4mp 5mp) is there a really noticible diference in image quality for a comon person which wont use its professionaly, what im trying to say is if any normal person not a photographer will see difference in image quality between an A series to an S.

I have a powershot S30, and I've shot with friends before who are beloved Canon fans due to my advice. One has an A80 (4mp), another an A60 (2mp), and the last has a G3 (4mp).

Personally I think that the entire line of Canon cameras have excellent sensors. But the lenses in front of the sensors really only affect the type of photographer you are. Personally If you're a regular photographer the "A" series does an excellent job, and also offers you almost all the features of a comparable S or G series camera.

Asides from lenses the only striking differences to me are the camera body styles. I think all Canon cameras are pretty, but the S series are all metal, and some A's are just plastic. But really, I think an A80/95 would be perfectly fine for someone like you.

i just got a S series. and it's great. a friend of mine had the s50. and his is awesome so i decided to go with the newest one. hopefully it wil be just as good.

Why did you choose the S70, and not a new G version? It looks to me like the S has everything yet is smaller, and I am trying to determine if the G is better in some way?
