after nearly 4 months of fighting with compatibility problems betwen these two units, I have decided to give up on the Sunpak, and try to find a Metz 60T, or a Quantum Turbo.

A little background behind the problems before I send it back, so maybe someone can help out.

I bought a Sunpak 622 Super in May, and used a hot shoe adaptor on the Rebel, had problems with the flash firing, and getting an error 99 code on the camera. That flash lasted less than a week, and it wouldnt fire anymore. I emailed Canon, with some questions, and they basically told me that they do not offer any assitance with aftermarket(non Canon) product . I also emailed Tocad (Sunpak USA) and recieved no response. I sent it back, and they replaced it with another new Sunpak. In the mean time, I purchased a Wein Safe Sync, and got to use the 2nd Sunpak for less than one night. It quit working, and I retired it for a bit, and tried to use a Canon 550 EX, with less than acceptable results, Just not enough flash to do what I want to do. Dirt track race cars at night. I sent that Sunpak back, and they tested it and said it was OK, but would send me a new one out(3rd) again to try. I received the 3rd unit, and it would not fire at all. So they had me start testing the safe sync and cord connections, and I found that the safe sync was fried. I went to the camera store today, with my new Sunpak, and tested my safe sync on a couple different cameras, and none of them would work. (Actually, the camera technician was doing all the work now) Got out a new Safe sync, and hooked it up, and the camera/flash fired twice, and the Sunpak quit working. The safe sync is still good, but the Sunpak it now toast. The camera technicain is dumbfounded that this could be occuring, as I have been for 4 months. I am sick of lost time and expense over this deal. I absolutely love the Sunpak flash when it works, but after 4 months, I have less than 20 shots where it worked.

The latest Quantum flash is the T4D. I have the T2D and it works well. The Turbo is one of their battery packs.

Perhaps you can hold out and pick up a 580EX when it becomes available. I have a 420EX, and I kick myself now for not spending the extra $100 for the 550EX, but I will get the 580EX when it becomes available.

Just recieved a call back from ToCad,(Sunpak America) and she says that they are not compatible. Oh well. I guess thats the breaks, when you charge forward into unknown territory.
