Hey,

Has anyone had their other half disappear for a while on holiday/business trip and begin to feel the bite of an empty place? Mrs PB has gone home to Mauritius for a while, and I'm stuck here because a) My apartment doesn't pay for itself and b) Christmas exams!!

At the risk of being all pathetic, it's so obscure how a place so full of life can just be instantly resigned to a silent box when the other person is gone. Doesn't even feel like my place any more :(

My problem is "so noisy, so fast". I travel a lot, so I become accustomed to the quiet of my hotel room and vehicle. When I get home to my wife and 3 daughters, it's a culture shock. Takes me a couple days to get back in the groove.

I've been away about 80% of the time for the past 4 years of holidays... gotta love the military!

I'm with Cowpix on this one! Though I do understand sentiment, PB.

I travel a lot too, and do enjoy the silence of my own space when on the road. But when my wife travels for her work, the house does not seem rignt.

Well, I think that's a very sweet thing to say and that your other half would be touched to hear it. ;) Hang in there. I remember those days. Now I spend much of my time dreaming of time alone. But I know that empty feeling would sink in very shortly thereafter.

Well Karl, you pessimist you! I've been married for 26 years...and when my DH is gone, I still am lonely for him. A quiet house is unnerving. I TOTALLY get what the OP is saying...and I agree...he needs to show this to his DW.

Well, I was being my usual smartass self...

A lot of people cannot handle being alone - they must have someone around all the time. I've known people like this and some have followed their wife/husband around like a lost puppy almost constantly. Sorry but I think that's wrong and unhealthy for a person.

I'm perfectly able to live alone, did so for two years, but it's more the company to just sit and have tea, idle chat..

And I Agree...just because I'm lonely for my DH when he isn't here, doesn't mean I cannot entertain myself for a time without him. What I was saying is, once a person is used to the hustle and bustle of a busy house, then it suddenly becomes quiet, it is an odd feeling. What you are describing is an obsessive person. and I did realize you were being sarcastic...you failed to notice mine :p :p

You're lucky. My wife couldn't give a $#%^@ where I am.

:D It's quite nice to live the 'guy' life, just leave plates and cups about, but at the same time ....

my wife for the time being is heavily dependent on my Russian language skills, (but she is catching up quick!) so when she is actually somewhere else (so rare) i feel lost in my own city, and i'm the one who knows where to go and how to get there! haha, the empty feeling sinks in for me real quick, whether at home or out and about...

but this place is definitely the place for idle chat  (and tea, but you will be drinking alone! haha)

Whenever my wife takes off for a few hours I always have these imaginary plans/goals of what i will "accomplish" while she is out, and yeah, i definitely fall prey to the idle chat of POTN more often than not! this place is the most informative way to kill a few hours in the blink of an eye that i can think of!
