Im pretty amature when it comes to photography, but we all have to start somewhere, so i got myself a cannon eos 300d with standard lens and i got myself a 55 - 200mm lens to go along with it, and thats all fine its working out great, im taking photos of what i like when i like, and how ever i like, its great, i love it. But my gf asked me to take a portrait photo of her and her brother so they can give it to their dad for christmas, now im kinda a little worried, because ive never really taken portrait photos b4 let alone ones to be given as a gift, so i'd really like some help or tips or advice just anything to help me take a decent photos i mean ive read books on photography and put all that in to practice but whats the fundementals of taking a portrait photo when you have very limited resorces avaliable.

Or this one: http://www.photosig.com/go/journals/read?id=237&forward=userjournalentries

Can anyone tell me how to post a proper link? These URL's work but they dont seem to turn blue like all the other links I see here.... Just a Q on the side though.... I did not find anything about this in the FAQ's which may mean that I have not searched long enough...

Read this (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1584281340/002-3047575-5896047?v=glance), and maybe this (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1584281251/002-3047575-5896047?v=glance). The first book is amazing, a fantastic resource that anyone starting out in people photography should read. The author, a pro, only lets his interns (who all have photography qualifications) take full length photos of people after 2 years of working on head shots and head/upper body shots, which I thought was a bit harsh and a bit strange, but I guess he's the pro.
