I would have either bracketed the shots or tried to take a few using the histogram as my eposure meter. Alternatively you might have looked for shade at the expense of some of the splashes of light on the subject in #2. Overall, nice images.

-->But my friend was all dressed up for her hubbies award ceremony
She is a beautiful young woman. She must have charmed the award givers and the audience.

--> so did i get a good one?
I liked both 1 and 2 and I am attaching versions adjusting the white level of both and further adjusting the red (white) level in image #2 and finally sharpening both to taste.

-- > which is better
The 1st image as a photo to post with the award winning husband is best -- it is strong, happy and healthy.

The 2nd image is a bit more aluring and suitable for the husband's personl file. However the over-exposed hair kind of keeps it out of the running.

Hi,

I'm a beginner with no expertise in portrait photography but I thought I'd chip in my 2 cents!

All 3 shots look lovely. I'm fond of less posed-looking portrait shots so given a choice between #1, where your friend is looking at the camera with a big smile, and #3, where she is looking away with a gently contented smile, #3 is the one I'd pick to frame and give to her, if that's what you had in mind. Plus, the highlights on her hair and the light, subtle background help make #3 something special in my opinion.

The adjusted version of #1 that Leighow posted looks great -- really brings out the colour in her hair. The one thing I'd do with #2 is colourize the blue patch in the lower-left corner to match the background colour in the upper right corner.
