View Full Version : Liscensing some images, should I add a specific time frame?

I'm in the process of negotiating some liscensing fees for some of my images for promotional and web use.

I'm wondering if I should add in a specific time frame (i.e. 1 yr, 2yr, etc.) or just apply the liscensing for an indefinite or unlimited number of years?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

What do some of you charge for this type of use per image?

It's all up to you on how long you want to set the terms for the licensing. Each project is different. For magazines, its almost always a 1 time use. For corporate, it can be one time, or in perpetuity.

Can't help you on pricing it since it all depends on the use, image, client, etc.

I know this is a non-committal answer, but a finite answer depends on so much, and there is little info here to base it on. The best I can suggest is to use the pricing guidelines of things like FotoQuote, looking up rights managed stock licensing fees, etc, and base your price on what you find from there.

The Stickys above your thread will help, too.

Always limit the duration of the use. The longer the license, the more you can charge. You can also increase the duration instead of lowering your price.
