View Full Version : Question about Nikon bodies

I shot with a Nikon D70 today. It’s a very nice camera with a good feel. I have a question for those familiar with Nikon bodies (I'm sure there are some of you here). I shot in aperture priority and found that the camera displayed the selected aperture on the top mount LCD only when the camera was actively metering. I found it odd not being able to glance at the LCD to check aperture without pressing the shutter button. Also, in order to change aperture, I had to half press the shutter to engage the meter. Since I’m not used to this it was awkward, but I suppose it prevents accidentally changing the aperture. So is this the normal Nikon setup, or was it likely the camera's presets or custom functions were behind this?

I have the very same camera. To the best of my knowledge there isn't any way of displaying the app except when the camera is actively metering.... if you find one do be sure to let me know. :)

Unlike the D70, the Canon bodies that I have used maintain a constant display of the aperture while in aperture mode, whether the body is metering or not.

You are right Quinn Porter.
The display shows the "priority" you choose & the setting.

Just another example of Canon's clear superiority over "the other" brand :)
