Since I don't like neck straps and the G7 is a pretty expensive brick to drop, I made my own wrist strap out of the original neck strap that came with the G7. Since I don't need to use the whole neck strap, I will be able to make a second one for my G2. Cool thing is the G7 logo is on one and the Canon logo will be on the second Strap. I used 6lb Monofilament fishing line to sew the ends together, it won't rot, is stronger then regular thread and is easy to sew with. I could have a more professional look, if I had access to a sewing machine. Remember to measure the loop size twice on the fattest part of your hand plus a little more.

That's what happens, when you can't find something on the market that fits your needs or likes. Also the original neck strap, would have been collecting dust in the closet or put up on ebay.
I wanted to try the Canon WS20 wrist strap made for the camcorders, but no one can check the strap width for me.

Looks great. I find the material is still scratchy, though.

Canon did that on purpose, so the neck strap will not slip off your shoulders.

The Canon camcorder WS20 wrist strap is too wide but can be made to fit with a ring. There's a picture of mine on my blog, http://lightdescription.blogspot.com

Thanks! for the FYI, answered my question....not a fan of the metal ring and bigger strap than I had imagine.

So Cal, I've been browsing for a couple weeks here and finally bought a G9.
I've been struggling with a wrist strap as well. It seems your on to something. I just hate not having a quick disconnect. Have you come up with a retro fit for that option yet? lol.
I'm a bit reluctant to give up the neck strap for 'those times'. But since Canon is too chensie to supply a strap with / quic disconn's., it doesn't make sense to have to re-install their neck strap occasionally.
I thought I saw at least one that touted changing out from wrist to neck with quick disconnects. I passed over it for a reason, now have to refind. Anyone know what that one was?
I guess until I find/make the ultimate strap, I'm going to have to try yours Choppas.
One question as I decide how tight to size it. How's it been sliding on and off your wrist?

You can probably find those nylon disconnects at something like jo ann fabrics or michaels, or an REI or eastern mountain sports, not sure if you can find the small ones like that.
If you noticed on the neck strap, the backside is coated with a rubber/non-slick surface to keep from sliding off your shoulder. I made sure there was a enough slack to slide to put my hand through, but not with a winter glove on.

On Sunday I picked up the wrist strap for a APS Canon compact for 50 pence, small and neat and has a sliding adjustor to tighten around wrist. Fixes by slipknot, no metal hook or ring.

Has the web slots always been 1/4" on the G series? I just got a G9 and the non-standard 1/4 vs 3/8 (industry standard) limits options.
