I'm looking at just ordering the Digital Rebel from newegg, since it has no tax and cheap shipping costs. It's just about the cheapest place. But my question is, is it worth paying an extra $102.50 for the Canon 18-55mm? Or am I better off buying a different lens that is in that same range?

Your not going to find a WA lens of that quality (albeit not the best) around that price range

Thanks for the answer. I thought it was worth it.

Definately worth 102.50
...the crappiest lens you could possibly find find that wide in an EF mount would cost more! **cough** quantaray ** cough** phoenix **cough**

I see the Drebel kit lens all the time on eBay, and lots of times they sell for at least that much. So even if you get it and don't like it, you can easily get close to what you paid for it.
That said, the image quality exceeds the cost. Go for it.

I personally think it's worth it too ... if I didn't already have a 50 mm lens and a wide angle lens, I would have definitely picked it up (if I didn't have to mod it). Most lenses in that WA range are way more expensive...I think the new EF-S 10-22 coming out soon is going to be about $900.
The kit lens doesn't afford you much in the way of zoom, however, AND I've heard there isn't much wide angle distortion, even at 18mm. (I like wide angle distortion).
But I'd still pick it up because it's one of the cheapest zoom lenses that is actually somewhat decent.

If you can't afford the L or EFS, this is your only option.
