I just sold off my XTi, some glass, and some accessories to a friend in NY. I went down to the UPS store and had everything shipped insured for the value of new replacements. I couldn't believe when they told me the cost to ship was over $50!!!!
Do you folks insure your packages when you sell electronics? Do you use UPS?? I wish I had gone to the post office, I can't imagine I would be nearly as ripped off.

To insure or not is your choice. It doesn't matter who you ship with, they will charge you a hefty fee for insuring expensive items.
And of course, the moment you don't insure something is going to be the time the package gets lost or damaged beyond all hope. Murphy's Law!

I always insure my packages.
Especially when I'm making sales.
I also try and double-box when possible.
UPS charges outrageous fees to package items!
I stopped using UPS and FedEx years ago because of some bad experiences; I now only use USPS.
I haven't been disappointed so far....
And I probably just jinxed myself...

I've only ever sold 1 thing on the net and I insured it. better safe than sorry. UPS may be a rip-off but USPS is murder when you try to collect on a claim.

Most of my stuff is FedExed from Hong Kong and is insured, 2 day int'l express.
I figure, the less time it has to sit around in shipping, the less something can get damaged, and insurance is mandatory on stuff from Kea Photo

It depends on what I am shipping. I shipped an 85L without insurance to Mark. I made dang sure it got there too haha. Sometimes I do take risks.

I worked with the post office, kinda...Well anything that says "insured" is handled well, everything else is fair game. If you don't ship insured, please tell them it's fragile (they stamp it). They will do a little better. The key is GOOD packaging. Wrap stuff up good, double tape the ends of the box.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA I just about fell outa my chair reading that. You may have treated those packages nicely but I wont ever believe they always get treated nicer than regular ol' mail. I've worked in a warehouse... I know what goes on.

I don't about the warehouse part, I know on our end it was big deal ;) I guess someone was afraid, BUT as I said, key is packaging!
