Hiya All,
Whilst trying to capture the Globular I.M.J. ( in mid jump ) I spotted this unidentified little red one, again apologies for the quality :o:lol:
I had a look to see if I could get an ID & all I could come up with is Monobella grassei but they all seem to be a creamy off white, any suggestions most welcome
Cheers for now

common in mainland Britain' but there is only one confirmed record for Ireland'. How weird is that, maybe they fled during the troubles?

Hiya All,
Just received a near enough confirmation ID :D from Frans as follows :-
The small purplish/reddish is not Monobella grassei which is a quite yellow/orange nearurid springtail-without-a-springtail ;-)
Given its small size it is a juvenile specimen.
It is a member of the family Hypogastruridae. Ceratophysella bengtssoni (as suggested at the forum) is a candidate.
But it could also be Hypogastrura purpurescens. Hypogastruridae are hard to ID on habitat pictures.
Hypogastrura is mostly deep blue while
Ceratophysella is more purplish/reddish/brownish even yellowish. But ofcourse there are always exceptions such as H. purpurescens...
Kind regards,
Frans
These folks on http://www.collembola.org/ absolutely amaze me with their wealth of knowledge they must be so dedicated.
Cheers for now
Mark
