EF 28-80 II?

I've got the opportunity to get an EF 28-80 mm II f3.5-5.6 for pretty cheap (2 digits). Would you suggest I pick it up? Right now I only have primes. I am not very discerning when it comes to sharpness because I almost always resize my shots for the web.

If you only resize...

I'd get 28-300 and be happy with it :shock:

no matter how slow and unsharp, you can bump the ISO, scale down and it's still gonna look really good. :?

Doc, do you really suggest a 28-300 to somebody who so far only had prime lenses or is this some joke of yours ???

I must say that i have found these lenses really not too bad when used on digital! :) In fact i remember testing them as better than the 18-55 kit lens
I've used several models and find them good enough to use for snapshots.
I never did like them on film though! :shock:

thanks for the tip so far ... if I could, I'd get the 28-300, but it's way out of my price range. by the way, I've heard somewhat decent things of the 35-80 III. Any opinions?

I have heard occasional good comments about the 35-80 ( various models-there seems to be no clear agreement on any one model being best)
*BUT*,the only one i can remember that gave a demo photo showing 'how good' it is ....was utter crap :x (scuse my technical term :lol: )

In my own experience i have used quite a few different examples and models (on both film and digital) and NONE of them i would consider worth throwing at my dog when it's barking.
One i lived with for 7 years as my only lens.It wasn't the best example fair enough, but was easily the worst lens i've ever used
Absolute rubbish in my opinion :evil:
