Hi all, new to the board. Well, it looks like the LCD on my trusty SD100 finally gave out after a few years of heavy use. I am now looking for a new replacement point and shoot camera, preferably Canon of course. My wife will mainly be using it indoors shooting people. Outdoor shots are currently being taken care of by my new 40D. :D

Anyways, one camera we are looking at of course is the new SD1000, which seems very reasonably priced. Our main complaint about our SD100 has been shutter lag; it takes about 3 seconds from the time you push the button to the time it takes the shot. Does anyone know if it is the same on the SD1000? Any other recommendations would also be greatly appreciated.

First off, the SD100 is one of the models affected by this service notice (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=238911), so you may be able to get a free repair if the symptoms are anywhere near close.

Second, if that's a measured 3 sec. in good light outdoors, then yes - they've made improvements in shutter lag. They're still not up to DSLRs yet, but they're doing better. (A DSLR has separate sensors for AF, exposure and actually capturing the picture; P&S cameras have the one sensor they use for everything - and focusing while metering and leaving the sensor ready to actually take the picture all at the same time doesn't work. That's why pre-setting exposure and/or focus will speed up your picture-taking considerably.)
