Apologies if this has been asked and answered elsewhere - did a search and came up blank.
Anyway, which CF card can I use (min 4Gb capacity) that will maximise write speed for my new 1D3?

I have a Sandisk Extreme IV CF which seems nice and fast :)
Although I tend to favour SD cards, as my laptop has a slot for these :)

Just got 2 Sandisk Extreme IV 4GB cards - and they are very fast on my 1DMk3:smile: They also come with recovery software - in case you should ever delete files by accident etc.

I have used a lot of different brands and the only cards I have ever had any problems with are Lexar. Now it seems there is a reference to problems with Lexar cards on the Canon site.

Funny thing is that the images I lost were taken on a 30D and that camera is not listed. My recommendation is to avoid them (Lexar) entirely.

I found 120x and 133x CF cards too slow for 40D.
Takes a while to clear the buffer.

I had the Sandisk Extreme II CF 4gig and just bought a Sandisk Extreme IV CF 4gig and couldn't believe the speed difference between the two on my 5D. For sports I highly recommend the Extreme IV

Based upon RAW write speeds, data on the net indicates that the write speed of a 1DMIIn to be between 6.468MB/sec to 5.320MB/sec (Galbraith) and that the Sandisk Extreme III CF cards are capable of a minimum 20MB/sec write times. Since these cards are financially attractive and more than fast enough to accept what will be written to them, I suggest you purchase these. Memory size instead of speed is more likely to be the bottom line.
New data in from Canon, indicated that the write speeds of the newest models are just slightly faster than those replaced. Sorry, but I can't find the source this morning. However, I decided that the Extreme III cards were by far the best buy for me, and did so.
Canon indicates that they do not speed rate digital cameras, but that perhaps the faster speeds of some CF cards may assist in the download speeds of card readers, to your computer. If you are using a firewire connection, it is already very quick for me.:D

Thanks for that. That's essentially the reasoning I used to go with the III rather than the IV. Write speed is far more important to me then read speed, so the III's will be the way to go for now I think.
