View Full Version : What's your P&S??

Maybe it's just me, but I don't always carry around an SLR everywhere I go. I do however try to carry around a little point and shoot for those "OMG I NEED A PICTURE OF THAT!!!!!" moments.

So the question what's your carry everywhere camera?

P.S. I don't have a digital one yet, hence this post.

If it wasn't for the lags, I may have not bought the 300D.

G-5 here. Since this camera has a non removable fixed lens, it's my camera of choice when I go four wheeling in dusty environments, and small enough to bring when I hang out with my friends in the T-Bucket Street Rod club. There just isn't much room for a bigger kit in one of those. Also, I consider the photo quality of a "G" series camera to be very good. :D

G1. It sort of became my wife's when I purchased the DRebel, but I still use it when I wish to "travel" light. Excellent camera ... I've always been very pleased with it's capabilities.

I try to take my SLR with me as often as possible but I always have my Canon S50 in my briefcase with me.

It has allowed me to quickly snap that picture that you might not have gotten otherwise.

No, You really cant, and I think the G-3 and G-5 had the exact same lens.

MINOX DC 3311

The most amazing shutter-lag, but razor-sharp pictures
as a reward. Like an L-Lens.
I take it along for snap shots of things I want to get to back later.

It is a hand-me-down and died after a bit over a year. I sent it to Minox
in Germany who told me it had a 2-year international guarantee (!!!).
They exchanged it and I got to keep it as my friend had bought a Canon in the meantime.

I have a G3 in the car where its handy. I bought my daughter an A70, and my wife has an A80, so I usually always have something to use if I need it.

Have Fun,

Not really a camera to put in my pocket and in fact almost as big as my 10D but compared to my 10D camera bag with all the lenses and "stuff" I usually carry my Sony Mavica FD-97 around. Don't use it as often as I thought I would but at least I always have a camera in the van ... just in case!

Add me to the list of G5 owners. It fits perfectly in the center console of the truck and is always there whenever I need it.

I decided if the occasion calls for somethin truly portable.. then why compromise portability?

When quality is the issue.. it's going to be a big SLR.. so I dod not try for "The best of both worlds"

I simply wanted the most portable CF capable Canon I could get.

I use a Rebel myself and carry it just about everywhere in my car but if I really wanted something lighter, I have a A80 that my dad usually uses.

I was once quoted as saying "There are two things i do not leave home without, my guitar, and my camera".

They are truely with me (in my truck) at least 75% of the time...you never know when you will need or wnat one, and that time you dont have it...you know how that goes.

P&S's are just too annoying for me to use, i've owned one...i sold it.

It was a 1968 Buick WildCat Convertible.. 430CI engine.. and a mint interior... and wjhile all the imported Turbo drivers were stuffing amps and woofers in there trunks..

And a Canon Elph (APS Film), but I don't use this one as much. I got some cool shots with it though, before I had my rebel or any other digital cams.

I've been through a few but my current P&S is the Sony DSC-V1 (http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/sonydscv1/). I take a lot of snaps when I'm out clubbing and hefting a 10D round my neck cramps my moves. Man.

The Sony also saved my arse at a very dark Shins gig (http://www.bzangygroink.co.uk/phpgallery/Shins) where I couldn't take my 10D + flash. The IR mode came to my rescue.

I've also had a Canon A60 and I'd say that was better in low-light / nightclub conditions than the Sony. I miss that little cam!

I don't even carry it regularly, since my "real" camera bag goes everywhere I go.

Very similar here. I too have a G5 with which i am very very satisfied. The only difference between Bruce and me .... He got his DSLR first. I got the G5 first and then bought the 10D.

LOL! I was shooting an Olympus E-10, but had lenses waiting for my Canon DSLR. Once the 10D was in the bag, I couldn't let it be lonely for it's little Brother, now could I? :D

Well, my P&S used to be the S50, but now that my wife has effectively taken over that as her own, my answer to this question is the following.

P&S camera = Digital Rebel in P mode
non-P&S = Digital Rebel with Battery Grip in Manual Mode

I still have my Nikon Coolpix 4500, but it was originally designed to be my 'poor man's digital SLR', and has been gathering wool while I use my 300D and new Canon glass.

My wife and daughter each have Minolta Dimage X series cameras -- and I'm jealous. They are so tiny you can carry them with you *anywhere*. I guess I'll have to get something like that for myself -- heaven knows, I can't pry theirs from their fingers anytime soon.

I sold my gee three ( mistake)
So i bough the A95 coz it cheap , light but not miniscule like the S410/S500.
Best of all it has the 1.8" flip LCD which i miss most about the G3.
Unlike the G3/G5/G6 it can fit in my pocket.
But it usually sits in my wife's purse :-) , that way i free to blame her for missing that fantastic/rare photo.
It offer movie modes. handy for my baby
:)
http://www.canon.co.jp/Imaging/psa95/001-e.html

It complements my 10D well,
as it can do wierd angles shooting ( flip & twist LCD) camera
+ my wife camera ( hates the 10D dimensions & wt)
+ take along camera ( lies in her purse)
+ underwater camera ( will order the housing soon)
(The G series does not have the underwater casing.)
We love swiming & the outdoors. This accessory will be so handy :)

The only thing i hate is the lack of shoe mount for external flash . :(
Overall I am happy due to the price ($340) , weight (8.3oz.) & form factor (4.0 x 2.5 x 1.4in.).

Mines the Canon A70.. I loved it when I got it in May, I was moving up from a Kodak DC3200 (1.3mp) camera. I got a rebel about 2 months ago and now I can't stand the A70.. It's photo quality just sucks ^_^

Did i mention that a A60 dragged me into this photography addiction. It was just a birthday gift from a friend of mine, I wonder if he had plans to ruin me . I still have the A60 just in case but generally its always my DRebel and 50 f/1.8
