Canon, You need to a third position to your AF/MF switch on macro lenses. One that dissables the focus motor but allows communication with the body so that when were shooting at a selected magnification and rocking back and forth the shutter activates upon focus confirmation without comprimising magnification.

Or perhaps you could include it as a new C.F.

Is this feature already on better bodys?

Opps I was dreaming again...Back to reality, I need to go discard some OOF shots

Apart from often being in the situation where there's not enough light for AF to function, a system as you describe would have to be predictive depending on how fast you are swaying- interesting idea though.
I'm afraid I stick to totally manual focus, even if you could get it to work predictively it still doesn't know what part of the subject you are trying to get in focus and with the DOF available that would be a problem.

Actually I would think it feasable as a custom function...Practical???, I would sure like to find out!

Based on the way I shoot I would think it would be awsome!

Set the lens to max magnification MF...Press the shutter and lean in till...Click, only downside I see would be with composition issues.

This is not far off how I currantly shoot except once I believe I have attained focus I try and hold still while I release the shutter...Either that or I wind up jabbing the shutter as I come past focus
