Is 10 sec. the limit per recording or what?

on a 128 card you should be able to record 305 seconds in 320 mode.

Did you format the card before using? Does the camera tell you what size card you are using?

If you go into any record mode and click menu then scroll over to the little tool icon it will have an item called CF and it will say the formatted size of the CF.

Yes, i formatted the card as the first thing.

I both tried to click the record button once, and to hold it in, but still it stops after 10 secs!

When you take an AVI press once and release and then press the shutter button again to stop.

Maybe by holding the button down it is causing that.

Page 65 of your A40 manual says,
Your new A40 will only record about 10 seconds (approx 20 frames per sec.) at a time when set to 320x240 and about 30 seconds at the 190x120 setting.

You can keep recording segments and edit the segments with Videoimpression.

the way I read the manual, I thought everything was referenced for the 8meg card. I'm gonna have to try that now.

The camera has to have some sort of really fast internal memory. I think the deal with taking movies is that you can only shoot up to what the memory can hold. This *usually* results in 10 second movies in 320x240 and 30 second movies in the lower resolution. Because of the way compression works, however, you sometimes may be able to record for longer while other times not as long.
