I realized that I might have a problem this past week when I was at an all-day conference/inservice for a new piece of technology to enhance learning in the classroom.
First, the presenter asked the audience to identify the 3 basic colors and immediately popping into my mind: Red Green Blue. Of course I was wrong. :(
Then, I caught myself TWICE looking at different peoples' faces and automatically thinking about the diameter of the healing brush I would use to lighten blemishes.
I think I have a problem.

OK... well the RGB bit isn't too bad. Anyone who has spent a lot of time around computer equipement, CRT technology or printing might make the same instinctive mistake :)
The healing brush bit is seriously sick though :o You need professional help :P

What are the 3 basic colors? (or did you go back to daydreaming when the correct answer was given?)
You might need professional help.

Yes, he was talking Primary Colors... but then he got real fancy and asked for the 4th basic color and all I could come up with in addition to RGB, was Adobe. I was completely lost.
...yes, the healing brush thing was pretty funny, which didn't help me out because eventually the laughing in my head started to escape from my mouth and then I had to explain what was so funny. Of course, I couldn't bring myself to describe PS's healing brush and relate it to the woman's face sitting in front of me...

Well done, had you explained this, they'd send you to the funnay house. Right after she'd punched you in the face.
My answer for primary colors would also have been RGB, as an alternative I'd say CMY. We're all hopeless.
Also, if you spend too much time doing something, then you think about it all the time, the trick however is, not to let those thoughts exit your brain cells via any sort of output system :D

Next time, before answering such a question, ask "Additive or subtractive?"

     again!
***Actually the orriginal answer you gave WAS right!!!!! RGB ARE primary colours!
So too are red/yellow/blue and several other variations
Suggest to your teacher that he/she should go back to school
One more thing-if the teacher comes out with the classic "did you know that there are some colours that simply can't be projected and there are other colours that can't be printed?".....make sure you do the mumbled "bullsh*t" cough.
Such statements only come from those that got horribly sidetracked in basic colour theory :? :?
