I'm still at the messing about stage with my new 300d and ef 50mm F1.8 mkII. This was shot with the aperture wide open. I converted it using TimmyQuest's B&W conversion mini tutorial.
Feel free to Critique I'm just interested in getting better :)

I am really no expert and feel a bit out of place giving you my opinion but i will anyway!
The face is great but i feel it would be a bit better if his hands were in focus too. The hands keep drawing my attention away from the face and there is really nothing there to look at.
Does that make sense?

Jon,
I actually think the other way . The fact that the hands and sponge are blurry leads the eye to the main subject in the picture. Thanks for your reply though, it's very hard when it's your own kiddy to be objective (that's why I posted in this forum).
Tomorrow I'll try a slightly different crop. I'll take out the hand and half of the sponge from the left side. Your comments made me think I left way too much visible in my original crop.
Thanks David.....

I think the hands need to be out of focus to draw your attention to the face, this looks like a picture perfect shot to me.
